Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy

On April 1, 2020 the Department of Finance released details of the new 75% Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) by way of a Press Release and Backgrounder. Draft legislation has not yet been released however we understand that Parliament is being recalled to approve this new measure.

With the rapid release of information and announcements in recent weeks, many employers are confused about what this new program means for them. Will they qualify, how big is the subsidy, how does this new subsidy interact with the previously announced 10% subsidy and how do they access the cash are only a few of the questions we have received from our clients. As many of you may have questions about the CEWS, we have prepared a summary of both this wage subsidy and an earlier iteration announced last week.
