Paul Rutherford
I guess I came to the accounting field in the usual way – by obtaining a BA in English. As a curiosity, I took a few accounting courses as electives in my undergrad and discovered I had an aptitude for accounting. So, after a few years in the working world, I decided to go back to school and get my MBA. I have never looked back. I enjoy working with numbers and the challenges that accounting presents. Now I read books for pleasure, not because it’s a requirement.
I think it’s important to make a difference, whether it be to a client, a co-worker, family or friends, or even a total stranger. If I’ve solved someone’s problem, answered someone’s question or provided some valuable advice – that’s a good day. On a daily basis, you’re dealing with someone’s livelihood. It’s extremely important to them. To me, that’s the essence of accounting and what we do here. Everyone at Hendry Warren plays a part in client service.
Paul recently joined Hendry Warren. He has a BA and MBA from Dalhousie University and, prior to coming to Hendry Warren, worked as a controller for a hi-tech firm in Ottawa for 19 years.
